MERCURY IN CANCER
The Three of Cups is Binah in Briah. It is the influence of the element of Water in the Creative (watery) world.
Every combination in this card is a perfect fit. Firstly, Binah in Briah is water in water! Secondly, in the Three of Cups, Merury is in Cancer. The Planet Mercury, a planet of communication and expression is more than happy to discuss its feelings in the sign of Cancer – the watery sign of sensitivity and contemplation. It’s a match made in heaven.
SYMBOLISM
At the center of the Three of Cups card is the sea, which, of course is representative of its element of Water and the sign of Cancer.
The two goddesses are in the front of the card: Persephone and Demeter. Each of the goddesses is holding a cup overflowing with water (abundance). Completing the party is the god Mercury.
The scene is bright and shiny – but there is a caution at the bottom of the card in the form of the pomegranate. By eating the seeds of the pomegranate, Persephone was forced to spend part of the year with her husband Hades in the Underworld). So the message is that while you should, by all means enjoy the finer things in life, always beware of possible consequences!
