The Lovers tarot card is often misunderstood. At first glance, it seems to symbolize romantic love, a natural assumption given its name. However, the Lovers tarot is not simply about relationships—it is about the union of opposites within oneself, the power of choice, and the journey toward wholeness.

Early tarot decks, such as the Marseilles deck, named this card “The Lover” and depicted a man standing between two women, symbolizing an internal or external choice.

On the Tree of Life, the Lovers tarot represents the path between Tipheret (Beauty) and Binah (Understanding). This path teaches that through the harmony of opposites, we achieve divine understanding.

The Lovers also presents us with a choice—symbolized in the imagery by a road that splits into two. In the center stands a burning bush, representing Shekhina, the divine feminine wisdom (Anima). This reminds us that the Lovers tarot is ultimately about decisions—decisions that shape not just our relationships but our spiritual journey.

This connection to Kabbalah reminds us that our choices are sacred, and that when we align with our higher self, we move toward true divine understanding.
